Authenticity

One sticking point for critics is that Major League Baseball will become less authentic. When the game was created over one hundred years ago, there was no technology or way of looking at a play more than once. Umpires would have to make the call as it happens and go with their gut instinct. When a play is close and things are happening fast an official is bound to make a mistake.

However, as the machinery was invented to take a second look at a specific play, it has been implemented in baseball and other sports. Therefore, the perception individuals have of the game now is different than they were fifty years ago. Human error has been greatly reduced and will even further with this system. But, fans and viewers of the game tody expect the correct judgment to be used on every play. If a ruling were to go against their team and the television shows it was wrong call, then that person would be livid and want to take action.

In addition, complaints may arise from the length that replays already take during each game. Even though this does not seem like a lot, the game of baseball was not used to a regular delay like this. So, it was felt by the people watching the game and could become a bit frustrating.

Conversely, the new system proposed would not add any noticeable time on to this total. With the help of computer systems, the call can be made essentially instantaneously.
